“Bayshore Medical Center is extremely proud and honored to receive this recognition,” said Jeff Holland, CEO. “Not only does this designation demonstrate the top‐level of care patients will receive through our bariatric program, but it also signifies to our patients and communities, both locally and nationally, that we have a program with a track record of excellence.”
To earn a Center of Excellence designation, Bayshore Medical Center’s bariatric program underwent a site inspection from the SRC, during which all aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected.
“We are pleased that the medical community is taking the time to recognize hospitals that excel in surgical weight loss,” said Viola Hebert, RN, Director of Bariatric Services. “Speaking from the perspective of an individual who has actually undergone weight‐loss surgery at Bayshore, it really does make a difference when a bariatric program is fully committed to providing the best care and services possible to its patients.”
“At Bayshore Medical Center, we partner with the patient, the patient’s family, as well as members of our healthcare team to provide a safe, caring, and exceptional experience from the initial consultation to follow‐up care,” Hebert continued. “Not only do we offer free weight loss education seminars and one‐on‐one consultations before your procedure, but we also offer nutritional guidance and support to help patients deal with lifestyle changes necessary after the operation.”
With two‐thirds of all American adults being either overweight or obese, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity has become one of our nation’s most serious health issues. The condition is also closely correlated with a number of other serious health issues, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Bariatric surgery, when performed correctly, can help obese patients manage their weight when all other methods have failed.
The bariatric program at Bayshore Medical Center offers a multi‐disciplinary approach to the successful treatment of morbid obesity through the following procedures: Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass, LAP‐BAND® System, gastric sleeve, and BPD with Duodenal Switch. In many cases, these procedures can be performed through laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique that is relatively gentle on the body and allows for a faster recovery. The program is designed to help patients lose weight and keep it off. For more information, visit www.bayshoremedical.com.
